February is Black History Month in Canada. You can mark the occasion by exploring the Yukon's black history with this digital exhibit produced by the Hidden Histories Society of the Yukon.
The Hidden History group began in 2000, with a group of community members interested in uncovering black and Asian history of the Yukon and educating Yukoners about the contributions of Black and Asian people to the Yukon's economic, cultural and community development. Now incorporated as a non-profit society, the group's membership includes representatives from various cultural groups and people who are simply interested in history. Over the past fourteen years, the Hidden Histories group has conducted research and produced a series of exhibits and public events aimed at promoting awareness of this unique thread of Yukon history.
