Exploring Early Mapping in the North

Saturday, September 29, 2018

Time: 2-5 pm
Location: Yukon Archives

Join us for a fascinating look at Indigenous and early non-Indigenous mapping in the north. Guest speakers will describe traditional Indigenous territory, tell personal stories, and provide eye-opening insight into the Kohklux and Kandik maps, as well as early non-Indigenous maps of the North. Additionally, enjoy a film showing featuring the Kohklux map conferences in Klukwan and Fort Selkirk that marked the 125th anniversary of the Kohklux Map, and a map display created in collaboration with the Yukon Archives. In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the drawing of the Kohklux map, coming up in 2019, YHMA will be publishing an updated edition of our Kohklux Map book. Come down and learn about local history and navigating Yukon topography in this one-of-a-kind event.

This event is funded in part by Culture Quest.
