Funding objective

The aim of this program is to enable non-profits to be in a financial position to resume normal operations after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who can apply

This funding program can provide support for non-profit organizations that:

  • are part of the Tourism and Culture sectors; and
  • have experienced or expect a deficit between April 1 2020 and March 31 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Non-profit organizations must be registered and currently in compliance with Yukon Corporate Affairs. Eligible applicants may request support up to a maximum of $20,000.

Eligible applicants

Yukon tourism non-profit organizations whose mandate and/or activities:

  • promote bringing visitors to the territory; or
  • are focused on engaging visitors while they are in Yukon.

Yukon culture non-profit organizations whose mandate and/or activities are focused on culture, including but not limited to:

  • arts;
  • museums; and
  • heritage.

This does not include organizations whose mandates are outside of the scope of the Department of Tourism and Culture, such as education, religion, or language.

Ineligible applicants

  • Businesses, governments and other groups such as clubs, non-registered societies, etc.
  • Non-profit organizations whose mandates or activities are not related to tourism or culture
  • Organizations whose mandates are related to sports or recreation
  • Organizations whose mandates are outside of the scope of the Department of Tourism and Culture
  • Organizations that have been registered with Yukon Corporate Affairs for less than one continuous year

How to apply

We encourage applicants to discuss their eligibility and application with the Yukon Historical and Museums Association prior to applying.

1. Complete an application form.

2. Submit the form to the Yukon Historical and Museums Association by the application deadline.

3. Applicants will be notified of funding results within 3 weeks of the intake date.

How applications will be evaluated

Decisions will be made by a committee including representatives from:

  • the Yukon Historical and Museums Association;
  • the Department of Tourism and Culture; and
  • the tourism and culture sectors.

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Degree of revenue loss compared to the previous fiscal year – applicants experiencing a year-end deficit of more than 10% of their annual operating budget will be given priority consideration.
  • Government support already received
  • Eligibility for other funding supports
  • Ability of the organization to recover from losses (assets, revenue streams, etc.)

Those organizations facing the greatest financial losses and that have the most limited means to recover from those losses will take priority.

Application deadline

The deadline to apply is February 8, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.

Timing and payments

After we have notified the recipients, a funding agreement will be prepared between the Yukon Historical and Museums Association and the applicant. This agreement will outline the terms of the funding and reporting requirements (if applicable).

Agreements must be signed before payments can be made.
